Automatic gates and barriers
How often should automatic gates and barriers be serviced?
Most manufacturers and the Door and Hardware Federation recommend a professional service at least twice a year for gates and barriers in regular use. Servicing checks the safety devices, adjusts the mechanics and catches wear before it becomes a breakdown. Ask us about a planned maintenance arrangement for your site.
Do automatic gates need safety testing?
Yes. Powered gates must operate within the force limits set out in BS EN 12453, and the safety edges and photocells that protect people need regular testing. An unsafe gate is a serious liability for the property owner, which is why testing is part of a proper service visit.
Can you repair a gate or barrier that another company installed?
Usually, yes. Tell us the make and model when you get in touch and we will confirm whether we can help. We survey the installation first, tell you honestly whether it is worth repairing, and quote before any work starts.
How much does an automatic gate cost?
It depends on the size of the opening, the material and design, the automation equipment and the groundworks needed, so we do not publish a one-size price. A site survey lets us quote accurately and recommend the most cost-effective option for your property.
Fabrication and metalwork
What is architectural metalwork?
Architectural metalwork is bespoke steelwork designed for buildings: staircases, balustrades, railings, gates, canopies, secondary steel and decorative features. It is made to measure for each project rather than bought off the shelf, then installed on site.
Can you match an existing railing or balustrade design?
Yes. Because everything is fabricated in-house to order, we can survey the existing metalwork and fabricate new sections to match the original profile and finish, which matters on period properties and phased developments.
How long does a fabrication project take?
Simple items can be turned around quickly; larger structural or multi-phase projects are programmed around your build. The process is survey, design and approval, fabrication, finishing and installation, and we agree the timescale with you at quotation stage.
Working with MG Group
Are MG Group and Mr Gates the same company?
Yes. MG Group is the trading name of Mr Gates Fabrication Specialists Limited, established in 2009. The name changed as the business grew beyond gates into full architectural metalwork, security and acoustic solutions; the team, the workshop and the company registration are the same.
What areas do you cover?
We work across London and Hertfordshire from our base in Berkhamsted, and we take on larger commercial projects further afield.
Do you work with main contractors on commercial projects?
Yes. Much of our work is delivered for main contractors and national brands, including projects for Premier Inn, and clients such as Kier, Morgan Sindall and Whitbread. We are used to CDM requirements, RAMS and working to site programmes.
